Rachel Biddlecome
A native Oregonian, from Seaside, Rachel is a third generation beach-comber and clam digger, with sand is in her hair and salt in her blood. Her first photographs were of childhood mud-pies decorated with sticks and other treasures. Her first drawings were with "rock chalk" with which she made images on the sidewalk for passerbys. Her love of art continued to grow as she grew and included not only painting and drawing, but graphic design, book layout, pottery and ink work. Her first exhibition was in the Seaside High School library in 1994 of abstract ink works. After attending Oregon State University, in Corvallis, Oregon, Rachel returned to the ocean air. At Clatsop Community College she studied pottery, and attained her AS in General Studies. In 2000 she attended the Childrens Book festival where she studied with children's book illustrators, Elsa Warnick and Marla Frazee . She also apprenticed with artist Nancy Hathaway, in Indiana. In 2001 she took courses from Max Grover a Childrens Book illustrator. And had an Art show along side other students. Later that same year she participated in the Stormy Weather Arts Festival in Cannon Beach Oregon.
Rachel now lives 10 minutes from the beach. An advocate of life-long learning, Rachel continues to study art. And is working on passing her love of art onto her young toddler sons Josiah (lover of pens and paper.. and clay) and Isaac (lover of stickers, and finger paints). They both recently sent out valentines to their grandparents .. which they spent a few hours on!
Primarily, Rachel enjoys the bright playfulness of childrens book illustrations. She has participated in local, national, and online shows. Many pieces have been donated to charities like the RedCross fund for 9/11, Breast Cancer research via the BRA SHOW project, and collaborative pieces donated to 9/11 charities. She has sold her paintings nationwide, two are currently in a Hair Salon in NJ, another in an office in Virginia, while many others are in private collections, from Florida, to PA and New York.
As for what style she paints, it goes from Impressionism, Abstract and Folk, to Imaginative Outsider Pop. Her favorite artists are Monet, Georgia O Keefe, and VanGogh. She calls her painting Style Her IMAGINATIVE STYLE.. since it varies on her mood. We hope you like them!
